Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP)

As the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is introduced into our communities, there is an opportunity in Colorado to weave issues related to affordable housing, the environment, labor and economic development together to forge a more collaborative response to some of our most vulnerable and at risk members of our community. Such a response is both necessary (the Metropolitan Denver Homeless Initiative estimated that there were over 10,000 homeless men, women and children in metropolitan Denver alone in 2007), and the smart thing to do. There is evidence that ending homelessness saves taxpayer money.

Denver's Road Home Site Wins Award

thisisdenversroadhome.org, which is the ‘Participate’ section of this very site, was named as a Webby Award Official Honoree. Webby Awards are handed out in 125 categories, including Web sites, which are judged on content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, and overall experience. This year, nearly 10,000 entries were received from more than 60 countries worldwide.

Donation Meter Program

This program is designed to increase awareness about Denver’s Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness, and is also an effort to redirect the money given to panhandlers into initiatives that provide meals, job training, substance abuse counseling, housing, and other programs for those in need.

Finding Shelter In Faith Initiative

Two years ago, Helen Nunnelly could have represented the face of homelessness in Denver. On Thursday, she was celebrated at a crowded luncheon as one of 518 success stories - a working woman who has made a home for herself and her 2-year-old daughter, Isabella, thanks to the power of faith-based organizations.

Public Hearing

This announcement is for the City and County of Denver application for the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing program. Denver Human Services will be amending it’s Consolidated Plan on May 18, 2009 to request $3.7 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing. Prior to the Amendment a PUBLIC HEARING will be held on THURSDAY APRIL 30, 2009 at Denver Human Services, 1200 Federal Blvd. Room 3110 from 2:30 to 4pm. The purpose of het meeting will be to take comments from the public regarding the use of the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing program.
